Each week this section will feature three stories from around the baseball world and a preview of the weekly story in the works. Each base will focus on a different facet of the game. First base will focus on news from college and amateur baseball, second base will feature an update from the world of minor league and independent ball and third base will feature interesting news from any level of America’s pastime.
First base- The Kansas Jayhawks baseball team announced it will be making a trip to the Dominican Republic this winter to play against the Kansas City Royal’s Dominican affiliate and two Dominican amateur teams. The Jayhawks will also participate in community service.
Second base- The Kansas City Royals changed minor league affiliates and signed an agreement for the next four years with the Lexington Legends. The Royals picked up the former Houston Astros team after breaking ties with the Kane County Cougars.
Third base- Clint Eastwood’s new baseball movie “Trouble With the Curve” did poorly this weekend earning just $12.7 million. The movie has appearances from several independent league baseball teams and real Major League Baseball affiliated scouts.
Stepping into the box- I’ll look at a Kansas City adult baseball team entering the playoffs that features some professors from the University of Kansas.
